Below is a list of fragrance free/unscented products that are available in Australia (or can be ordered from overseas). Most of these products are used by people with sensitivities to chemicals–such as fragrance. Not all the products listed are okay for all people who are sensitive to chemicals; there are few people who could still be sensitive to some of the ingredients in these.
People who are sensitive to chemicals should always test a new product before using it.
Many people who are sensitive to chemicals (have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), or are immune compromised in some other way (cancer, Chronic Fatigue, etc.)), can experience symptoms just from breathing near someone who is wearing a product containing fragrance chemicals–such as perfume, aftershave, deodorant or hairspray. Aerosol products can be particularly troublesome, and even dangerous because the fragrance chemicals that contain solvents, used to disperse them (aromatic solvents and hydrocarbons) are designed to diffuse into the air and linger around the person who is wearing them. This can make it impossible for people who are sensitive to stay in the same room without having mild to severe reactions that can last for several hours, days or even weeks. Also, these product’s ingredients can stick to their hair, clothes and other belongings, making chemically sensitive people’s lives difficult. If you know someone who is sensitive to chemicals, and you are not sure about a product that you will be wearing around them, you may want to ask them about it. I’m sure they will appreciate it, and if it’s a product that they know they are not okay with, they may even be able to suggest one that won’t affect their health in the future.
Products marked with an * have a natural scent that may cause symptoms for some people. A few unfortunate people are so sensitive to chemicals and scents that there aren’t many products suitable to be used around them: Please check if you know someone like this.
The links to the retailers who sell these products are mere suggestions of where they can be purchased: The Labyrinth is not affiliated with any of these businesses.
(My Personal Tip: If you are hugely sensitive to fragrance, then you may want to purchase from businesses who sell only fragrance free products (or promise to order them in and keep them separate for you!). If your in Australia you could try here, or here, or even here; if you’re in Europe, you could try here; or if you’re in the US you could try here,)
If you know of more places around the world who do this, drop me a link in the comments or on my contact page and I’ll add it to the list.
